What are you working on at the moment?

PMC for a greenfield 14,400 hectare, mixed used Industrial City complex located on the Atlantic Ocean and the Cross River Estuary in south-east Nigeria.  This project has completed its first phase (Milestone I) which was the concept master plan; and is now moving contractually into its second phase (Milestones II & III), which will include the Detailed Master Plan and Detailed Developer’s Strategic Plan, full FEED, and detailed engineering and construction for Stage 1, Year 1 basic infrastructure.

What do you like the most about working for WorleyParsons' Infrastructure & Environment sector?

This sector is much more politically charged than that of other portfolios, and as a result, the challenges are much broader. They require robust understanding of the project, the stakeholders, the political and economic environments, as well as the dynamics behind the local industrial and commercial markets.  At the same time, the fact that all of our projects are important to the local population and we are completing some of the first successful projects in some of these locations, is very fulfilling and rewarding.  There is no question that our skills, experience, hard work and dedication are highly valued by the people who benefit from these projects.

What is the most exciting project you have worked on at WorleyParsons?

The Akwa Ibom Industrial City (AIIC) project is the most  exciting project that I have worked on during my time with WorleyParsons / DeltaAfrik.  The scale, volume,  challenges, engineering processes and teams all play a role in creating that excitement.

When I spoke to the Nigerians attending the original ground-breaking ceremony on behalf of the state government, I told them, “…when I am wearing my engineer’s hat, this master plan provides me with the details and data necessary to put everything into its proper place, at the proper time, BUT when I then put on my developer’s hat, that same master plan then becomes the roadmap to the creation of the dynamics necessary to create the momentum required to create this great city…."
