The Project will result in the inundation of some existing roads and bridges. Consequently, realignment of roads and work to existing bridges is required in sections of Tamworth-Nundle Road, River Road and Western Foreshore Road. In summary, the following works are proposed:
- The intersection of Tamworth-Nundle Road and River Road will be modified to direct traffic flow around the sweeping bend across the altered Bowling Alley Point Bridge. Traffic entering Tamworth-Nundle Road from River Road will be required to give way.
- The alignment of River Road will be modified from the intersection with Tamworth-Nundle Road, approximately 1.1km to the south. This modification will primarily comprise a shift of up to around 10m to the east.
- The alignment of Tamworth-Nundle Road will be modified from the western side of the Bowling Alley Point Bridge to around 50m north of the bridge. This modification will primarily comprise a shift of the north-south section of road up to around 10 m to the east.
- The location of the Bowling Alley Point Bridge will be altered, with the eastern end of the new bridge located around 10m from its existing location. The western end of the bridge will remain in the same location. The new bridge will be approximately 174m in length, with six spans and two lanes. The deck level of the bridge will be at 529.30m AHD to provide adequate clearance above the 1 in 100 AEP flood level.
