The smelter includes a gas fired power plant with an installed capacity of approximately 3,650 MW and associated port facilities.
The initial phase comprised of a smelter facility having an initial capacity of 750,000 tonnes/year of primary aluminium and a power station of approximately 1950 MW. The second phase of the development increased the overall capacity of the complex to 1.4 million tonnes/year of primary aluminium.
WorleyParsons engineered major areas of the plant including the:
- Casthouse
- Carbon plant including green carbon, carbon bakes, anode rodding
- Port facilities
- Raw material handling and storage
- Plant services
MaisonWorleyParsons in Beijing provided the high value engineering services managed through the Melbourne engineering team. WorleyParsons was jointly responsible for the procurement and construction management from the project office based in Al Taweelah.
