WorleyParsons is the owner’s engineer for this two 1000 MW power plant. Overall responsibilities include developing the EPC vendor solicitation and evaluation criteria; assisting in obtaining project financing; evaluating vendor tender documents; developing the draft contract for the EPC services; providing document management and planning/scheduling hardware, software, services, and training for NEK; and ongoing technical support, evaluation, studies, and review of vendor designs and technical documentation.
Completion of the Belene NPP will also help Bulgaria to comply with the Kyoto Protocol and strict EC release norms. Nuclear power plants do not emit sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, particulates, or carbon dioxide, thus providing major benefits to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Waste materials from nuclear power plants very small in volume and are stored in a manner such that they are isolated from the environment, thus preventing any impact. A nuclear power plant also requires substantially less area to produce the same amount of electricity as gas, coal, or oil fired plants, thus reducing the environmental footprint of electrical generation.
