The North West T-Ways is one of a number of projects managed by Leighton Contractor’s Infrastructure & Facilities Management team (LIFM).

LIFM includes the following motorway projects where Operate and Maintain contracts are in place:

  • NSW - North West T-Ways, M3 Motorway, Cross City Tunnel, Eastern Motorway
  • QLD - Gateway Motorway and Inner City Bypass

These contracts see Leighton Contractors manage the operation of the motorways as well as maintain them on behalf of their customers. LIFM selected Evans &
Peck’s [WorleyParsons’] safety culture program in 2008, and since some 600 staff
and contractors have been engaged in the program. Evans & Peck [WorleyParsons]
conducted discovery sessions, leadership sessions, and on boarding sessions on
each project, and developed and printed personal passports and leadership logs,
where practices and other commitments were recorded and utilized to assist in the
accountability of personal practices.

The anecdotal measurable results across all projects include the following:

  • Increased number of hazards reported
  • Decrease in lost time incidents
  • Increased level of accountability
  • Increased level of competency across the workforce
  • Increased percentage of incidents reported
  • Leadership teams are more visible on site through the conduct of leadership
    walks

The program has been recognized as an industry leader through the Australian
Institute of Transport & Infrastructure, which awarded LIFM in 2009 with the
national award for safety excellence.
