Located south of Mongolia’s capital, the Oyu Tolgoi project is a new copper and gold mine developed by Rio Tinto that will become one of the world’s largest copper mines. WorleyParsons carried out the planning and detailed design of the power system including the local 220 kV network and substations and 35 kV network supplying the concentrator plant, raw water supply, and project infrastructure. A standby 40 MW diesel-based power system was also designed to cover the possible loss of the main 220 kV supply from China. WorleyParsons also provided on-site construction and commissioning management.

WorleyParsons’ Beijing, Melbourne, and Doha offices worked together to provide innovative solutions for the customer.
