The historic loading of 180,000 tonnes of high quality "rocket" iron ore aboard the Cape size vessel Heng Shan (Everlasting Mountain) was the culmination of an extraordinary achievement by the project team - generating nearly 200 permits, 13,000 engineering drawings, and 330 contracts. The green field project included the construction of an open-cut mine, 256 km single-track railway, airfield, accommodation camps for a construction workforce and the development of new port facilities at Port Hedland.
Representing numerous challenges to the project team, WorleyParsons supported FMG through the provision of project management, project services, engineering, procurement and construction management systems and personnel. These core capabilities were further supplemented by specialist technical services provided by our engineering office in Melbourne and global procurement office in Beijing.
FMG is one of the few companies that has been able to deliver a major iron ore project of this scale in the World. Its successful delivery is a reflection of the skills, capabilities, ingenuity and hard work of the entire project team.
