An oil fired power station in the center of Leicester, England was
decommissioned for an £8 million new commercial property development.

WorleyParsons completed a detailed site investigation and developed a risk-based remediation strategy, with the risk assessment focusing on impacts to the adjacent river. The remediation approach to metals- and hydrocarbon-contaminated soils and groundwater included on-site bio-remediation, which resulted in significant cost savings.

The project was considered by the Environmental Agency to be highly successful and a model for risk-based remediation in the UK. It was completed on time and on budget and WorleyParsons was awarded Powergen’s Industry Excellence Award (Environmental sector) for the project.
