Projects at both sites ranged greatly in scope and size, from small maintenance type activities to large grass roots units. The work is assigned by Tesoro to the WorleyParsons onsite team at the Wilmington Refinery. The onsite team handles all aspects of the projects and produces the appropriate deliverables by phase for review and acceptance by the Tesoro staff. While the work is executed in a very similar manner at the Shell Martinez Refinery, the team is organized in a much more integrated manner. WorleyParsons supplements the team with process engineering staff, working under the leadership of the Shell process engineers. WorleyParsons also prepares all of the estimates and is responsible for the execution of all of the discipline engineering activities - all carried out in a highly seamless manner.
Projects range from small maintenance activities, revamp, and modernization projects, to very large grassroots units. Each project had its own unique funding, schedule and cost tracking. Therefore, all costs are individually tracked for each project along with their corresponding schedules. Hundreds of projects have been successfully completed at both refineries over the years.
