The project provides for the transfer of 400 MW of power through a 53 mile submarine transmission cable stretching under San Francisco Bay. The high voltage, direct-current (HVDC) link is based on Siemens new HVDC PLUS technology, and it was the first application worldwide of this technology. WorleyParsons worked closely with Siemens to develop the detailed design of the two HVDC converter stations for this project. Concurrently, WorleyParsons managed the complex Californian planning and permitting process to support an aggressive construction schedule.

WorleyParsons effort on this project was recognized through a “2010 Western Council of Construction Consumers Distinguished Project Award.”
