Charging the US electric vehicle market

We’ve been awarded a detailed engineering and procurement services contract by Syrah Technologies for the expansion of production capacity of its active anode material (AAM) facility in Louisiana, US.

This project will be delivered by our US Gulf Coast team and will help Syrah become a pre-eminent, large-scale supplier of natural graphite AAM for US and European markets. Once complete, the project will have a total production capacity of 10,000 tons of AAM per year.

AAM is used in lithium-ion batteries. This is the battery technology powering electric vehicles and many other applications.

“We support our customers around the globe in their energy transition journey, and this project is another example of that,” said Amanda Knost, Worley Senior Vice President of the US Gulf Coast region.

We have previously partnered with Syrah to deliver other projects in its graphite supply chain, such as designing its Balama natural graphite mine and processing plant in Mozambique, the bankable feasibility study of its AAM project in Louisiana and the detailed design and construction execution phase in Baton Rouge.

“Our purpose of delivering a more sustainable world is well aligned with our customer’s goals,” said Knost. “This project allows us to advance Syrah’s efforts to produce materials that are critical to the energy transition.”
