Supporting innovative technology for mineral sands

We’ve been awarded the definitive feasibility study (DFS) contract by Iluka for its Balranald Mineral Sands Project.

Balranald is a rutile-rich deposit in the northern Murray Basin of New South Wales, Australia.

With deposits located approximately 60 m below the surface, Iluka is assessing the potential to develop these using a novel, internally developed, underground mining technology.

Our teams in Australia and Kolkata will provide engineering management and resources to develop the design, estimate and execution plan for the process plant and associated infrastructure.

“Worley has over 50 years of experience designing and executing mining projects from concept to operations. Working with Iluka, we’ll approach the DFS with construction in mind to prepare for a successful operation. We thank Iluka for the award and look forward to a positive outcome,” said Gillian Cagney, Regional Managing Director, Australia & New Zealand.
